Géraldine Martin

Director of Entrepreneurship, City of Montreal

Since April 2016, Géraldine Martin has been Director of Entrepreneurship at the City of Montreal, a position newly created by the city administration. She is responsible for defining and implementing an action plan to stimulate entrepreneurship on the City of Montreal territory. Under her responsibility are the PME MTL network, with six (6) poles and 86 employees spread across the territory, responsible for supporting and financing Montreal businesses; targeted subsidy programs to help entrepreneurs; the PME MTL Innovation path; the Bureau du design; and the Bureau de la Mode. Géraldine was previously assistant publisher and editor-in-chief at Groupe Les Affaires, which publishes Les Affaires, Quebec's leading business publication. Géraldine worked for Groupe Les Affaires for more than seven years, also holding the positions of Publication Manager for Les Affaires newspaper, Content Manager for the LesAffaires.com website, and Content Director for the Investir section of Les Affaires newspaper. Today, Géraldine has 18 years' experience in the world of economics, entrepreneurship and communications. With a DESS in financial and banking techniques and a Magistère in Banking and Finance from the University of Paris II Assas, she plunged into the world of communications in 1998, taking a job with the Bloomberg news agency in Paris as head of interviews for the American company's French TV channel. In 2000, she immigrated to Quebec and became a researcher at Radio-Canada for Capital-Actions, Quebec's French-language economic and financial program. In 2002, she became a columnist for the same program. Then, in 2004, she was recruited by the Journal de Montréal as an economics journalist for the launch of Votre Argent, a weekly business newspaper. In 2009, she was hired by Groupe Transcontinental, owner of Les Affaires newspaper. Géraldine is also involved in a number of causes, including succession planning, immigrants and the advancement of women in business. She also sits on the Board of Patrons of the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montréal. She is an observer member of fashion councils, the Quebec fashion cluster and the Association des sociétés de développement commerciales de Montréal (ASDCM).
